Have you heard of scrape painting? Are you looking for something different for your little ones to do during their Spring break? Need a Spring weekend activity?
This spring craft will bring out your kids’ creativity in a fun and messy way! My kids enjoyed mixing different paint colors together and making a mess! A lot of laughter and a lot of memories were made for sure!
You can use any template you want for your kids to make their art masterpiece. We used an egg. I’ve included free PDF templates for you to choose from. You can choose from an egg template, a cross template, or a bunny template.
Ok so let’s get started! I’ve included a list of all materials you’ll need, the process, and pictures to guide you.
Materials Needed
- acrylic paint
- white card stock paper
- glitter glue
- scissors
- old credit cards or gift cards
Step-By-Step Process
- Choose the template you want to work with. You can choose any of these three FREE pdf templates that I am providing to you. See download link at the bottom of this post for your 3 FREE pdf spring templates.
- Let your kids or students choose from any variety of acrylic paint and start putting drops of paint on their template.
- Try to limit them from only using about 5 colors. If they use too many colors, the colors may not mix well together.
- Using any old credit card or gift card, have them scrape the paint in any direction they want.
- This process will create a very cool affect and kids will love to see their different colors transform!
- Once they have scraped all the paint on their chosen template and are happy with their outcome, they need to let them dry.
- We let ours dry overnight before cutting and applying the glitter glue around the edges.
- Once fully dry, cut along the edges of the design.
- Choose whatever color glitter glue you want to give the design a finishing touch along the edges.
My kids really enjoyed this craft and quickly wanted to do another one when they finished the egg. Their favorite part was definitely watching the colors all mix together when they scraped their drops of paint.
Even my 21-month-old enjoyed this craft, even though she preferred just dripping the paint onto the egg template. If you decide to try this activity with your kiddos, please leave me a comment and share you experiences!
